Mac Attack is making her mark

The 15-year-old from regional Victoria is currently opening the batting for the under-18 state team, joining a long list of Australian stars who have walked this path themselves.

Hailing from Gol Gol – a town on the border of Victoria and New South Wales, Blows has cemented herself as one of the finest young batters in Victoria.

Her love for cricket unrivalled, she manages to juggle her life around her quest to reach her goals.

“At the moment, school is not a major problem because I’m in year 10. But when I start year 11 and 12 and the work load increases, I might find it a bit harder,” Blows admitted.

“I want to go as high as I can with my cricket. I want to enjoy every challenge and experience on the way and keep the love for the game no matter how far I go.”

With long trips occupying much of her parents’ spare time, Blows’ parents have sacrificed a lot to see her dreams come true.

“We both work full-time and are fortunate that our employers allow us to take time off work so Makinley is able to attend a number of the Melbourne training sessions,” father Mark said.

“Even though it can be a juggling act at times organising travel, accommodation and time off work, we wouldn’t have it any other way. We enjoy watching Makinley play cricket and are happy to do whatever it takes for her to achieve her goals.

“She is very passionate and has a love for the game – she lives and breathes cricket.”

It’s easy to see why parents Mark and Melinda enjoy watching her play cricket.

Her performance at the Under-15 National Championships which yielded 240 runs earned her a spot at the Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit’s training camp.

“It was an awesome experience to have an insight on how the Vic Spirit girls prepare and go about their game,” Blows said.

“I took away some points to help develop my game and watching them play showed me how hard I’ll have to keep working on my game to reach that level.

“It’s always a great experience to test myself against talented players from different areas and it’s great to get to meet new people.”

While Blows has her eyes set firmly on reaching the pinnacle of the game, her father has far a much simpler goal for her.

“All we wish for is that she enjoys her cricket and makes friendships from the game,” Mark said.

“Enjoyment is the key factor – any accolades are a bonus.”
