CV welcomes the Melbourne All Abilities Cricket Association

Cricket Victoria welcomed the Melbourne All Abilities Cricket Association (MAACA) as the 77th cricket association of Victoria on Sunday.

The inaugural annual general meeting held in the Delegates Room of Cricket Victoria, warmly welcomed the new executive committee to their roles.

The new member clubs form the first cricket association in Australia dedicated to cricketers with a disability. The member clubs to the competition are;

Full members

  • Moorabbin Cricket Club
  • Croydon Ranges Cricket Club
  • Skye Cricket Club
  • Axe Creek Cricket Club
  • Ferntree Gully Cricket Club

Provisional members

  • St Johns (Williamstown) Cricket Club
  • Yarraville Club Cricket Club

Newly elected President Steven Lefebvre said “the volunteers of member clubs have spent seven years working to develop an association and model that provides regular and inclusive cricket competition for cricketers with a disability from October to March.”

Through years of perseverance and with the support of the Victorian Government through the Access All Abilities program, the club volunteers were able to utilise the professional services of Cricket Victoria and Event Dynamix to form a working party that developed model rules, incorporated the association and established a set of codes and regulations of a typical cricket association.

The Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union welcomed MAACA as an affiliate association at their AGM earlier this year.

MAACA will offer a competition of cricket matches every second Sunday during the 2015-16 cricket season, with the fixture expected to kick off on Sunday, 25 October 2015.

Cricket Victoria warmly welcomes the Melbourne All Abilities Cricket Association and congratulates all the members of the association in making cricket an accessible sport for people with a disability.
