Australia undefeated early at Indoor Cricket World Cup in Dubai

Australia have made a dominant start to the Indoor Cricket World Cup in Dubai, sitting undefeated across all four divisions following Day 3 of competition.

Victoria are well represented in the tournament with 10 local players featuring as well as Australian Open Men’s Coach Ross Gregory who, in his final cup campaign, is on track for his seventh World Cup title.

The Open Men started their campaign with comfortable victories over India, Malaysia and South Africa, but were pushed all the way by New Zealand (61-43) and U.A.E (90-78). Victorian players Justin Perkins and Travis Baker have been steady contributors to date with Perkins’ best performance 15 runs and 2 wickets versus India, while Baker scored 11 runs and 1 wicket against South Africa.

Australia’s Open Women have yet to be tested on the scoreboard with four convincing victories over England, New Zealand, South Africa and U.A.E to date. Nicole Martin has been Victoria’s leading contributor with 45 runs and 5 wickets. Briony Polkinghorne (31 runs, 3 wickets), Laura Shaw (22 runs, 6 wickets) and Danielle Montague (29 runs, 1 wicket) have also played important roles throughout the tournament.

Australia’s 21 & Under Women are also undefeated after five matches. Australian Captain and Victorian representative Adelaide Campion has been one of the standouts across the round-robin stage, scoring 69 runs and taking 8 wickets. Fellow state representatives Maddie Wright (49 runs, 7 wickets), Chloe Rafferty (42 runs, 2 wickets) and Amy Jennings (32 runs, 1 wicket) have also enjoyed strong performances to date.
