Lord’s Taverners supporting tomorrow’s cricket stars

Ballarat’s Matt Short was acknowledged and awarded the 2015 Male Junior Lord’s Taverner of the Year Award, with Yarrambat’s Kirsty Lamb and Bairnsdale’s Sophie Molineux taking out the 2015 Female Junior Taverner of the Year and “Betty Butcher” Awards respectively.

Also at the annual function, former Australian Test cricketers, the late Warwick Armstrong, Matthew Elliott, together with Australian one-day international and T20 superstar, David Hussey, and Victoria Premier Cricket Administrator, Peter Binns; were inducted as “Legends of Victorian Cricket” within the Lord’s Taverners Branch.

“The three Junior awards recognise and provide financial support to young emerging cricketers in the state based on nominations received from Cricket Victoria,” said the Lord’s Taverners Australia Victorian Branch Chairman, John Kilgour.

Kilgour added, “to be able to support young players with the skills and potential that Matt, Kirsty and Sophie have is tremendous and we hope the additional support and recognition will help them to take their respective games to a new level in the years ahead”.

The Lord’s Taverners Australia was founded in 1982 and has raised and disbursed more that $10 million in cash and in kind to support the young and disadvantaged to personally develop and grow through participation in sport, with a particular focus on cricket.
