MILO T20 Blast School Cup launch

Cricket Victoria (CV) and School Sport Victoria (SSV) launched Cricket Australia's inaugural MILO T20 Blast School Cup national competition today at the MCG.

Held in December, the tournament will see the best primary school cricket teams from across Australia gather at the MCG to compete for the national title.

CV Chief Executive Officer Tony Dodemaide and SSV Chief Executive Officer Jude Maguire were both on hand to launch the program, acknowledging their continuing partnership.

“We are delighted to once again partner with SSV to deliver the Victorian competition,” Dodemaide said.

“The partnership with CV is highly valued because it brings with it professional development for our teachers and fantastic opportunities for our kids,” Maguire said.

With today’s release of the 2013-14 Victorian cricket participation figures showing a 9 per cent increase in schools, the MILO T20 Blast School Cup gives kids another chance to play cricket.

“This competition helps to provide another cricket opportunity for primary schools and will assist us in further growing participation in Victoria,” Dodemaide said.

Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit captain Meg Lanning was also in attendance, noting the rarity of being able to play on the hallowed turf.

“Every child dreams about playing on the MCG, so I think it’s great that these kids can receive this opportunity,” Lanning said.

“Hopefully it will encourage them to continue their cricket careers.”

Prior to the national event, primary schools from across the state will partake in regional carnivals with winners progressing through to a regional final and then on to the state final at the MCG.

The eventual winner of the state final will represent Victoria at the national tournament.

In 2013, over 900 schools participated with 2118 boys and 1421 girls teams entering the state-wide competition.

Registrations for the 2014 MILO T20 Blast School Cup Primary School competition are now open.
