NICL – Round 3 Wrap

Week 3 of action in the NICL wrapped out in thrilling fashion.

Men’s Round 3

North Geelong Supercats achieved a hard fought 26-run victory over the Northcote Pirates.

Batting first, a 46-run partnership between Barry Manderson and Dylan Burns set up a total of 107 for the Supercats. This was followed up with a 4-wicket haul to Matthew Messmaker to secure the win.

Despite a home court advantage Hoppers Crossing were no match for the Northcote Knights who took maximum points in their 137-32 victory. David Worthington led the way for the Knights in an evenly spread batting performance with 26 runs, while Phil Hiah and Cam Clayton took 3 wickets each.

In the East, Frankston Sharks secured their second consecutive win with a 95-43 win over the Cranbourne Kings. A 33-run partnership between Lance MacDougall and Shane Clark was important for the Sharks in setting up their total of 95, but it was Jarrod Armitage who was the standout player with 4 wickets.

Croydon Raiders are unbeaten after 3 rounds, easily accounting for Monash Tigers by 50 runs. Michael Sullivan and Justin Perkins were key contributors for the Raiders with both bat and ball.

Women’s Round 3

The match of the round saw the Kings defeat Melton by 4 runs. Batting first Maddie Wright (19 runs) and Danielle Montague (17 runs) put together strong performances in their total of 89. Melton started their chase strongly and required only 24 runs from the final pair to win, however, wickets to Wright and Brodie Whitmore saw the Kings steal victory.

Northcote Knights returned to the winners list with a 99-67 win over Springvale Scorpions. Tamsyn Wright, Jess Surace (20 runs) and Emma Medland were key contributors for the Knights in the victory.

Monash Tigers continue their strong start to the season with a narrow 7 run victory over the Springvale Seahawks. Three wickets from Georgina Heenan helped restrict the Tigers to 71 batting first, but a tight bowling performance from the Tigers, including 3 wickets to Brylee Baker, saw Monash take the points.

Northcote Pirates achieved their first win in the competition with a 118-93 win over Cranbourne. Anthea Sheriff took 3 wickets for Cranbourne but it was Meika King who was the most influential player across the match scoring 20 runs and taking 2 wickets for the Pirates.

Victoria will be the centre of attention in Round 4, as the round’s live-streamed National Match of the Day heads to Croydon Indoor Sports on Sunday, May 21. Monash Tigers will take on Northcote Pirates in the Women’s division at 6.15pm, while Croydon Raiders will play host to Frankston Sharks in a top of the table clash at 8pm.
