Preliminary squads selected for Under-15 and Under-18 National Championships

Victoria's preliminary squads for the Under-18 and Under-15 Girls National Championships have been selected.

The Under-18 squad of 14 will now attend a high performance camp in Bundalaguah from September 28 to 30 with two Twenty20 matches against the Gippsland Pride Under-15 Boys on September 29.

Hayleigh Brennan, Sophie Molineux, Tayla Vlaeminck and Georgia Wareham have also been invited to Cricket Australia’s Talent Camp at the Bupa National Cricket Centre in Brisbane from September 24 to 27.

Victoria’s Under-18 coach Duncan Harrison said that he was confident the team could go one further than their second place in last year’s tournament.

“We’re very pleased with the squad that we have put together in the Under-18s this year, with only lost three players from last year’s side that finished on top,” Harrison said.

“The Under-18s have been training a lot recently with the Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit squad with the VicSpirit players running a mentoring session that allowed the girls to tap into the collective knowledge of the elite program.”

Five players from last year’s Under-15 squad, Teagan Brett, Erika Quinn, Annabel Sutherland, Sophie Vandehueval and Rosie Wynd, have returned to the Under-15 line-up that will play practice matches against a Victorian U18 Academy team during the school holidays.

Quinn and Vandehueval will attend the Under-15 Talent Camp at the Bupa National Cricket Centre in Brisbane next week and the pair have also recently been training with the Under-18 team.

“The Under-15s have a good core returning from last year and we have been impressed with the quality of training so far,” Harrison said.

“It is a good balanced squad that we think will play well in the Tasmanian conditions.”

The Under-15 National Championships will be held from November 25 to December 2 in Hobart, while the Under-18 tournament will be played in Canberra from January 13 to 20, will the final squads for both age groups announced on October 14.
