Under-15 Victorian squad announced

Cricket Victoria has announced a 13-player squad for next month's Under-15 National Championships in Sydney.

Held from November 26 to December 3, the squad boasts four returning members and five bottom-aged players including captain Teagan Brett.

The attacking top order batter and medium fast bowler will be joined by fellow bottom-aged representatives Annabel Sutherland, Erika Quinn, Rosie Wynd and Bella Gietzmann, who is also a returning player, along with Zoe Griffiths, Jessica Karamoshou and Sophie Van De Heuvel.

“We have a well-balanced line up that is capable of making big scores with the ability to occupy the crease but also increase the run rate when required,” Victorian Under-15 coach John Hayes said.

“Our bowling has good penetration with eight medium to fast bowlers along with two leg-spinners and an off-spinner.

“We have also ensured that we have a strong fielding team with girls that have the ‘x factor’ in the field who can do something special when needed.”

Hayes also noted that there are promising signs for the future of female cricket in Victoria with the squad consisting of seven country and six metro representatives.

“There is a good representation across the state which is very encouraging for the future with selection becoming more difficult as more girls come through our system,” Hayes said.

Over the past few months, members of the squad have gone through various selection processes with some featuring in the recent Country and Metro series, in which Country claimed a 2-1 series win.

Having completed last year’s tournament as runners-up, the squad will use their training and match practice experiences in a bid to claim this year’s title.
“I’m very excited about our potential to go one step further this year,” Hayes said.

“I would like to thank every one of the girls that came through the program and their families for the commitment and enthusiasm shown throughout the process along with assistant coach, Nat Schilov, specialist coaches Jack Paynter, Adam Hutton, Emma Inglis and Victorian Under-18 coach Duncan Harrison.

“Also thanks to the Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit, Barry Neivandt and Catherine Fitzpatrick who attended some of the sessions, which was fantastic for the girls.”
