The Under-19 National Championships begin in Adelaide today with 30 Victorians taking part.

Vic Metro Under 19 Squad

Name: Liam Banthorpe

Current Club: Fitzroy Doncaster CC

Pathway Region: Northern Falcons

Skill: RHB, WK

Banthorpe has put together a solid season together thus far for Fitzroy Doncaster in their First XI, hitting back to back half centuries against Kingston Hawthorn and Greenvale in rounds six and seven whilst batting in the middle order.

Name: Mitchell Barnewall

Current Club: Essendon CC

Pathway Region: Northern Falcons

Skill: RAOS, RHB

Barnewall has made his way into the First XI at Essendon this season, taking five wickets in three games bowling off spin. He is one of two recognised spin bowlers in the squad and the only off spinner.

 

Name: Damon Egan

Current Club: Melbourne CC

Pathway Region: South East Bayside Breakers

Skill: RHB

A right handed middle order batsman, Egan has been plying his trade for Melbourne’s Second XI in the Premier competition. His top score of 79 came in round one against the Monash Tigers.

Name: Nick Fletcher

Current Club: Fitzroy Doncaster CC

Pathway Region: Inner East Emus

Skill: RAFM, RHB

Playing for Fitzroy Doncaster in the Second XI, Fletcher has taken seven wickets so far this season, including hauls of three wickets against Melbourne Uni and Melbourne.

 

Name: Sam Grimwade

Current Club: Prahran CC

Pathway Region: Inner South East Scorpions

Skill: RAOS, RHB

A developing off spinner, Grimwade has played six games in Prahran’s First XI to date this season, taking six wickets. Three of those came against Dandenong in round two, where he collected 3-31.

 

Name: Sam Harper

Current Club: Melbourne CC

Pathway Region: Outer East Eagles

Skill: RHB, WK

Already a Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers squad member, Harper has had an excellent start to the 2015-16 Premier cricket season. He has compiled 244 runs in seven First XI games at an average of 40.7, including two half centuries and a top score of 91.

 

Name: Jonah Koch

Current Club: Footscray-Edgewater CC

Pathway Region: Western Spirit

Skill: RAFM, RHB

A right arm paceman, Koch has started his season at Footscray-Edgewater with success, taking ten wickets in six Second XI games thus far. This included highlights of 4-22 against Ringwood and 3-31 against Melbourne Uni.

 

Name: Tom O’Donnell

Current Club: Essendon CC

Pathway Region: Inner East Emus

Skill: LAFM, RHB

The only left arm quick in the squad, O’Donnell will add some variety to Vic Metro’s attack. Playing for Essendon in the Premier competition, he has taken six wickets in seven First XI games this season including a best of 3-43 against Geelong.

 

Name: Will Pucovski

Current Club: Melbourne CC

Pathway Region: South East Bayside Breakers

Skill: RHB

A middle order batsman, Pucovski has begun his 2015-16 season with Melbourne in good fashion. The right hander hit a top score of 70* against Melbourne Uni, and he will certainly look to continue that form for Vic Metro.

 

Name: Gehan Seneviratne

Current Club: Carlton CC

Pathway Region: South East Bayside Breakers

Skill: RALS, RHB

A specialist leg spinner, Seneviratne has been performing very well for Carlton this season. He has taken 12 wickets in five Second XI games, including a haul of 6-40 against Geelong. With only two spinners in the Metro squad, he will be called upon to bowl a lot of overs during the Championships.

 

Name: Jacob Serry

Current Club: Prahran CC

Pathway Region: Inner South East Scorpions

Skill: RHB

A specialist middle order batsman, Serry earned a call up to Prahran’s First XI side in round four of the Premier competition this season, grabbing his opportunity with a half century against St Kilda batting at number six.

 

Name: Patrick Turner

Current Club: Dandenong CC

Pathway Region: Outer East Eagles

Skill: RAFM, RHB

A right arm fast medium bowler, Turner has been a consistent performer in Dandenong’s Second XI in 2015-16. He has taken eight wickets in seven games, half of those coming against Prahran and Casey-South Melbourne in rounds two and three.

 

Name: Jackson Waters

Current Club: Monash Tigers CC

Pathway Region: Outer East Eagles

Skill: RHB

A right handed batsman who can bat in the top or middle order, Waters has played in both the First and Second XI’s this season at Monash. His top score of 81 against Fitzroy Doncaster has been the highlight of his season to date.

Vic Country Under 19 Squad

Name: Liam Bowe

Current Club: Sandhurst CC

Pathway Region: Northern Rivers

Skill: LAWS, LHB

A left arm wrist spinner who is one of three spin bowlers selected in the Vic Country squad, Bowe has performed well so far for Sandhurst. He has played five First XI games for a return of 12 wickets, including a best of 4-18 against Huntly North Epsom.

 

Name: Angus Boyd

Current Club: Geelong CC

Pathway Region: Western Waves

Skill: RAOS, RHB

A talented all-rounder, Boyd has taken six wickets and collected 89 runs in five appearances for Geelong’s Second XI this season. This included a top score of 42 against Prahran as an opening batsman, and 3-52 against Essendon.        

 

Name: Cameron Brown

Current Club: Casey-South Melbourne CC

Pathway Region: South East Country Sharks

Skill: RAFM, RHB

Brown has played both First and Second XI cricket at Casey-South Melbourne this season. After beginning the season without luck, he has taken four wickets in the last three rounds of Premier Cricket and will be hoping that form continues into the Championships.

 

Name: Xavier Crone

Current Club: Carlton CC

Pathway Region: Northern Rivers

Skill: RAFM, RHB

A tall fast bowler, Crone has been exceptional in his six Second XI games for Carlton this season. He has taken 14 wickets thus far, including a best of 4-37 from 20 overs against Dandenong and three wicket hauls against Ringwood, Northcote and Essendon.

 

Name: Tom Ewing

Current Club: Frankston-Peninsula CC

Pathway Region: South East Country Sharks

Skill: RAOS, LHB

The third spin bowling option in the Vic Country squad, Ewing has been honing his craft with the Frankston-Peninsula Second XI. He has taken six wickets in seven games this season, including 3-24 against Casey-South Melbourne. He has also been handy with the bat, with scores of 44 against Essendon and 41 against Prahran.

 

Name: Ryan Hartley

Current Club: Prahran CC

Pathway Region: Northern Rivers

Skill: LHB, WK

One of two wicketkeepers in the Vic Country squad, Hartley has played for the Prahran Second XI this season. He has made 70 runs in six innings in the middle order, as well as taking six dismissals behind the stumps.

 

Name: Nick King

Current Club: Prahran CC

Pathway Region: Western Waves

Skill: LHB

An opening batsman, King has enjoyed a great start to his 2015-16 season with Prahran. He has hit 265 runs in seven games at an average of 53, including a top score of 101* against Geelong in the opening round.

 

Name: Adam McMaster

Current Club: Dandenong CC

Pathway Region: South East Country Sharks

Skill: RAFM, RHB

McMaster has been impressive whilst playing for Dandenong in their First XI this season. Having played the first seven games of the season, the right arm quick has taken 12 wickets, including a performance of 3-6 from eight overs against Ringwood.

 

Name: Jackson Mockett

Current Club: Frankston-Peninsula CC

Pathway Region: South East Country Sharks

Skill: RAFM, RHB

Mockett played valuable time against quality opposition in the First and Second XI for Frankston-Peninsula this season. A right arm fast bowler, there will be plenty of opportunities for him to use this experience throughout the Championships.

 

Name: Devin Pollock

Current Club: Casey-South Melbourne CC

Pathway Region: Gippsland Pride

Skill: RHB, WK

The second wicketkeeper of the squad, Pollock has been keeping wicket for Casey-South Melbourne in the First XI this season. He has collected ten dismissals, as well as 81 runs batting in the lower-middle order.

 

Name: Brayden Stepien

Current Club: Carlton CC

Pathway Region: Northern Rivers

Skill: LHB

The powerful left hander has been playing well in Carlton’s Second XI to date, with the opener regularly scoring at more than a run a ball. He has collected 242 runs at an average of 30.2 in seven games, with a top score of 59.

 

Name: Blake Thomson

Current Club: Melbourne CC

Pathway Region: Central Highlanders

Skill: RAM, RHB

Thomson has been Melbourne’s most prolific run scorer in their Second XI this season, having already compiled 303 runs at 60.6 in seven matches. The top order batsman has made three half centuries, with a top score of 81 which came against Melbourne Uni.

 

Name: Matthew Underwood

Current Club: Footscray-Edgewater CC

Pathway Region: Central Highlanders

Skill: LHB

A left handed middle order batsman, Underwood has been playing with Footscray Edgewater in the Premier competition this season, playing both First and Second XI. Whilst he has only managed five games to date, he will be looking for some solid performances during the tournament.

 

Northern Territory Under 19 Squad (Victorian Players)

Name: Sam Elliott

Current Club: Camberwell Magpies CC

Pathway Region: Inner East Emus

Skill: RAFM, RHB

Although he missed out on selection for the Victorian squads, Elliot gets his chance to play in the Championships with the Northern Territory. The right arm quick has only played one Premier game for Camberwell this season, but will be hoping for good performances for his adopted state.

 

Name: Ryan Quirk

Current Club: Dandenong CC

Pathway Region: Southern Pioneers

Skill: RALS, RHB

Quirk has already shown his flexibility with the Dandenong Second XI this season. Although he started the season in the middle order, his success with the bat has been as an opener, his best effort of 54 coming against Essendon. He can also be used as a bowling option if required.

 

Cricket Australia Under 17 Squad (Victorian Players)

Name: Jonathan Merlo

Current Club: Camberwell Magpies CC

Pathway Region: Inner East Emus

Skill: RAFM, RHB

Merlo enjoyed an outstanding Under 17 Championship with Victoria with both bat and ball. He scored 223 runs at an average of 44.6 and a top score of 114*, and took 14 wickets in eight games, including 4-27 against the Northern Territory to be the equal leading wicket taker for the tournament.

Name: Blake Parsons

Current Club: Prahran CC

Pathway Region: South East Bayside Breakers

Skill: LAOS, RHB

Parsons was another young Victorian to make the most of his time at the Under 17 Championships. The left arm off spinner took 11 wickets in eight games, including 4-14 against Western Australia and finished as Victoria’s second highest wicket taker.
