The Kings have finished top of the ladder thanks to a superior run-percentage, despite their one run loss to Melton on the weekend. Batting first, the Kings put together a strong performance of 111 led by Maddy Wright and Danielle Montague.
However, Melton were equal to the task. Leanne Leggieri set the foundation early in the innings, but it was the experienced Briony Polkinghorne who led the team home scoring the two runs required off the final ball of the match.
Springvale Scorpions have lifted themselves into second place after a narrow three-run victory over Northcote Knights, knocking them out of the race for finals. Led by Ella Bauch (30 runs) the Knights put together a competitive total of 91 batting first. But Laura Shaw again stood up for the Scorpions, taking 2 wickets and hitting the winning runs in the final over of the match.
This sees the Kings go straight through to the live-streamed Grand Final, while Melton and Springvale Scorpions will do battle in a preliminary final next Saturday at Northcote.
In the East, the Falcons have taken top spot after a convincing 95-54 run victory over Springvale Seahawks. Michelle Lewtas (22 runs, 2 wickets) and Suzie Hilton (26 runs) were again influential for the Falcons who will go straight through to the Grand Final in a fortnight.
Monash Tigers have finished in second place, winning their final round match comfortably against Northcote Pirates 138-80. Erin Carrol (25 runs) and Jaide Anthony (27 runs, 3 wickets) led the way for the Tigers in a strong all-round performance. They will meet Springvale Seahawks in next weekend’s preliminary final at Northcote.
