In 2006/07, Kumar Sarna emerged as one of the best young batters in Victoria, scoring over 1,300 runs for Dandenong Cricket Club, Victoria Under 19 team and Southern Rangers Under 18 team.
Sarna's brilliant form commenced when he travelled to Adelaide with the Victorian Under 19 team and kicked the tournament off with 116 not out. Victoria fell three runs short of Tasmania’s first innings total but won their next five matches gaining numerous bonus points along the way. The Round 7 clash with New South Wales would decide the winner of the tournament with the Blues winning the two day clash by four wickets as Victoria finished runners up for the third straight year. Sarna finished the tournoment with 322 runs at 46.00.
Commitments with the Victorian Under 19 team prevented Sarna playing the final Premier Cricket match before Christmas for Dandenong but returned for the annual Country Round in January. Sarna scored 148 from just 147 balls, smashing 17 fours and 5 sixes in an awesome display at Deakin Reserve, Shepparton. Dandenong was struggling at 4/56, when Tim Hooper (64) joined Sarna. The pair adding 153 for the fifth wicket, enabling the Panthers to reach an imposing 9/282 from their 50 overs. Dandenong went on to win the match by 80 runs. This was Sarna’s maiden Premier First XI Century.
The pitches in Shepparton must suit Sarna who represented the Southern Rangers in the Under 18 Commonwealth Bank and broke the record for most runs by an individual for the seiries. Sarna finished with 401 runs from six innings as the Southern Rangers defeated Gippsland in the Final at the Melbourne Cricket Club to collect their third consecutive Under 18 Commonwealth Bank Cup. To cap off the week Sarna scored 56 for Dandenong in Round 12.
To cap off a remarkable summer Sarna was part of the Dandenong CC team to win the Primary Edge Twenty20 Cup, was selected in the Australian Under 19 team to play against Pakistan in April as well as receiving a part time scholarship to the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.
