CLUB DEVELOPMENT PUBLICATIONS

User Friendly Sport

This resource aims to help clubs come up with simple, practical ideas to maintain or increase the numbers and diversity of their membership, drawing on the experiences of local clubs.

The Other Kit for Cricket Clubs 

"The Other Kit for Cricket Clubs" has been produced to assist in the management and administration of Clubs throughout Victoria. The Kit is divided into two key areas:

  1. Relationships with Local Government authorities
  2. Basic Administration Hints for the running of your Club, and in particular for the new Cricket Administrator

LEGAL & RISK MANAGEMENT

Privacy Legislation

New national privacy legislation was introduced on the 21st December 2001 which provides a national scheme for the handling of “personal information" by the private sector.

The legislation is relevant to cricket Clubs and Associations in that it sets out requirements in relation to the collection, use, disclosure, quality, security and access to personal information.

The VCA has recently engaged the law firm Lander & Rogers, specialists in Sports Law, to provide clubs/associations with an overview of the new privacy legislation and their obligations under the legislation. Download: Privacy Legislation overview Privacy Legislation overview (38.00 KB )

Risk Management

Cricket Clubs have a legal obligation to ensure a safe environment for all who participate in activities under their control. The benefits of an effective risk management program include providing a fun, healthy and safe sporting environment, minimising potential club liability, increasing the likelihood of sustainable insurance and the opportunity for increased particiation and members at your Club.

Sport Injury Prevention

Injuries can occur while playing cricket and cricket clubs should ensure that they have adequate safety policies constructed and implemented.

Smartplay aims to reduce the incidence and frequency of sport and recreation injuries in the Victorian community and has a wide range of information and resources available on their website. View website

SMOKE FREE

Creating SmokeFree environments is an essential ingredient in developing a healthy, welcoming, family-oriented Club.

Quit's New Year Campaign, "Quit and Start Fresh" encourages smokers to plan for a fresh and healthy start in 2005.

Assistance is available to Cricket Clubs from Debbie Sandler at Quit Victoria (9653 5524) in the form of a New Year poster, stickers, fact sheets and the SmokeFree Guide for Sporting Clubs.

ALCOHOL MANAGEMENT

Responsible serving of alcohol is increasingly being recognised as an integral part of best practice in club development. With community expectations changing, Clubs are reporting positive results from simple initiatives such as:

  • Selling low alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks at prices competitive with full-strength alcoholic drinks
  • Providing water free of charge where alcohol is served
  • Ensuring alcohol is not served to or consumed by minors
  • Complying with Liquor Licensing Victoria regulations

Cricket Victoria Extreme Heat Guidelines

Cricket is a summer sport and as such it is inevitable that at times, matches will be scheduled for play during extreme heat conditions. All captains, officials, team managers, coaches and umpires owe a duty of care to players and officials and should take all reasonable steps to minimise foreseeable risks which may result in injury or damage.

Codes of Conduct

Fair play involves honesty, respect for teammates, opponents, referees, umpires and officials. The Australian Sports Commission have codes of behaviour for players, parents, coaches, teachers, officials, administrators, spectators and the media available on their website. Visit website
