There have been 66 national women’s cricket titles contested (since 1972/73 the winners have been awarded the "Ruth Preddey Cup"), Victoria has won 38 titles, NSW 22, South Australia 5 and Western Australia 1. From the 1996/7 season the format was changed from a two week tournament to a national league (Women’s National Cricket League — WNCL) with one day games played on a home and away basis. For the 1996/7-1997/8 seasons, a three match finals series was played. From 1998/9 a "best of three" finals series was played. Season 2002/03 marked the Victorian Spirit team’s first WNCL title. Since the introduction of the WNCL in 1996/97, NSW won the first five titles. In season 2007/08 will see the introduction of a one match one-day final replacing the 3 match deciders.
