Under 10 Mixed Cricket
Many cricket associations throughout Victoria run Under 10 'Non-Comp' Cricket. Some of these associations have taken the step to promote and recognise their U10 cricket as 'Under 10 Mixed Cricket' to encourage more girls to play at that age group. Under 10 cricket provides most young cricketers their first taste of playing a full game of cricket and playing in full cricket equipment. Girls are encouraged to play 2 years out of their age group (eg. 14 year old girl can play in Under 12 competition). Check with your local cricket association for their age requirements for girls. -
School Cricket - Primary School
The Cricket Victoria Kanga 8s competition is for girls in grades 5 and 6. Schools enter a team in the regional carnivals and the winning team from the regional carnivals go on to play in the Country or Metro State Final. Regional Carnivals are usually held in mid-late November with the State Finals in December. Schools should contact Cricket Victoria or their school's Regional Cricket Manager for more information. The VPSSA also runs a girls cricket competition for state primary schools. The competition is for grades 5 and 6. - School Cricket - Secondary School
There are a number of school cricket competitions for girls teams in secondary schools throughout Victoria. The Cricket Victoria Super 8s Competition is offered at two levels - Years 7/8 and Years 9/10. The rules are slightly changed at Years 9/10 to reflect the higher age group. Super 8s cricket is aimed at fun and participation, with everyone getting a chance to bat and bowl. Ask your school sports coordinator to see if your school has a team or to encourage your school to enter a team. The VSSSA has girls cricket competitions at the junior (Years 7/8), intermediate (Years 9/10) and senior (Years 11/12) levels for state secondary schools. Girls Sport Victoria offers cricket to 24 affiliated girls schools in metropolitan Victoria. The Schools Cup (Female) is conducted each year and involves representative teams from school sports associations (eg GSV, Eastern Indpendent Schools, Southern Catholic Schools Association). There are also other school cricket competitions for girls teams run by the different school sport associations. Encourage your school to get involved by getting a team together of girls that want to play cricket. - Open Age Cricket
The final step on your way to becoming a cricket star is to play for a cricket team in the VWCA competition. There are 5 grades of competition.
