MILO Kanga 8s

2009 MILO Kanga 8s

In 2009, the MILO Kanga 8s Competition attracted a huge amount of interest from schools around the state - approximately 25,000 primary age boys and girls participated last year.
To cater for the huge demand, there were over 60 Regional Carnivals covering the width and breadth of Victoria and 8 Regional Finals Days.

Congratulations to all schools involved from around the State for registering. The most important aspect of the competition is that the boys and girls participating are active, have fun and enjoy their cricket!

The 2009 State Finals on 8 December were unfortunately washed out due to heavy rain in Melbourne, although attending schools enjoyed a day of fun alternative activities at the MCG. Congratulations to the following schools for progressing through their Regions to the State Finals:

Program Overview

MILO Kanga 8s is a modified version of cricket for upper primary school age children cricket that maximises the involvement of all participants in a 16 over game (8 overs per team) that requires only 45-50 minutes from start to finish. 'Carnival' days include three round robin matches and a final and are generally conducted between 9.30am - 2.30pm at local venues around Victoria.

Cricket Victoria have been conducting this State-wide competition since 1998. Each year an increasing number of schools from around Victoria have entered. In 2009, around 600 schools participated with 1413 boys and 1082 girls teams entered in the MILO Kanga 8s State-wide competition.

The MILO Kanga 8s State-wide competition is;

  • FREE TO ALL SCHOOLS
  • Modified cricket that maximises participation
  • Played by boys and girls
  • Teacher friendly with easy to understand rules
  • Encourages team work, communication & leadership

Schools that enter the MILO Kanga 8s State-wide competition can choose to have a FREE clinic from a Cricket Victoria qualified coach prior to the competition. The clinic is aimed to teach the rules of the game, ground layout, strategies and tips.

The winning girls and boys teams from each of the State-wide Regional Finals will earn the right to participate at the State Finals at the MCG in December (duration of one day).
