Multicultural Cricket

Cricket Victoria’s established multicultural program caters for diverse cultural groups throughout the state. Cricket Victoria presents communities with the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle and social engagement through participation opportunities in its multicultural cricket program.

Under the Harmony in Cricket banner, Cricket Victoria maintains the philosophy that cricket is for everyone, irrespective of cultural background. The valued support of VicHealth, Sports and Recreation Victoria, Victoria Police and cricket clubs throughout Victoria allow Cricket Victoria’s multicultural program to flourish.

In 2010 Cricket Victoria has further grown its multicultural program through the GLoBALL Program, a joint initiative with Essendon Football Club.

The GLoBALL Program aims to assist Victoria’s international student community to develop relationships with more established communities and organisations through Cricket and Australian Rules Football with various leadership & engagement programs and workshops. The program attempts to break down misconceptions and strengthen cross-cultural ties between international students and the wider community. This program will provide international students the opportunity to interact with fans, staff and players of Cricket Victoria and the Essendon Football Club.

The scope of the program will assist them to have a more positive experience while studying in Australia, as well as develop their confidence. The program also aims to create a sense of belonging and understanding for newly-arrived international students to encourage them to experience Australia as their new home to a greater extent. Cricket Victoria is partnering with the Essendon Football Club, Austrade, RMIT, City of Melbourne and the Australian Federation of International Students to deliver the program.
