Player Appearance Policy

Cricket Victoria's Player Appearance Policy 2010/11

Background

 Cricket Victoria's Player Appearance program is a core component of the ‘Bushrangers and Spirit in the Community' and aims to enhance the image of both Cricket Victoria, the DEC Bushrangers and DEC VicSpirit whilst supporting key stakeholders and the community.

 As an elite sporting organisation we have the capacity to make a difference on many levels and we recognize the obligation to play an active role within the community.

As part of the Cricket Victoria's strategic plan, our core focus in relation to player appearances relates to meaningful and sustainable activity rather than one-off events and therefore the vast majority of appearances are taken up as part of Cricket Victoria's ongoing community programs.

Outside of these programs players are available for a limited number of appearances depending on the time of year requests are made. While Cricket Victoria endeavours to provide support where it can, unfortunately we are unable to fulfil every worthwhile request due to the volume of requests received.

It is highly recommended that your event does not centre on the anticipation of an appearance but should be approached as a complimentary element to your program.

Requests need to be received at least 4-8 weeks prior to the event to be considered. The status of your request may not be known until the week of your event due to the release of training schedules.

This policy seeks to formalise the distribution of player appearances and establish a clear set of criteria for those wishing to access a Bushrangers or Spirit player:

Purpose

Cricket Victoria's Player appearances are allocated in a number of ways:

  • Bushrangers and VicSpirit in the Community
  • Cricket Victoria programs
  • Cricket Victoria partners
  • Special requests

Availability
Players are available for appearances during the season from October till March. Player appearances are limited between June and September (pre-season).  No player appearances will be organised on match days or during the players leave period (April till May).

Not for consideration
Victoria encompasses over 1100 cricket clubs and 2000 schools and as the only elite cricketing body in the State we simply cannot cater for the high demand in a fair and consistent manner.  As such the following will not be considered for player appearances:

  • Club requests
  • Association requests
  • Schools or kindergarten requests
  • Region requests

Note:  At its discretion Cricket Victoria may approve the request of a player appearance under extraordinary circumstances to a club, association, school etc.

Charitable causes please note
Cricket Victoria has a preferred charity partnership with the Starlight Foundation however we do support other charity groups and causes.

Hospital Visits
Bushrangers and VicSpirit players make regular visits to the Starlight Room in the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne during the season.

Criteria

The following criteria are applied when prioritising appearances requests:

  • Clear role for player/s at the event;
  • No athletic/exercise programs that may present the risk of injury;
  • Minimum of four (4-8) week period of notice before actual appearance date;
  • Player appearance request form filled out in full.

The following requests will not be considered:

  • Requests from individual clubs, kindergartens, schools, associations and regions;
  • Verbal or in writing requests, or requests without the completed player appearance form;
  • Events that conflict with training, playing or travel schedules;
  • Where insufficient time has been allowed from receipt of request to anticipated appearance (i.e. less than four weeks);
  • During the players leave period (April til May);
  • When the request has come from an individual and is of a personal nature e.g. birthday party, weddings etc.
