Proposal to Clubs, Schools & Councils
This proposal promotes the Sports Development Program which aims to link the sporting organisation, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Sports Education and Development Australia (SEDA), RTO's, local clubs and local councils. This proposal seeks support from your club for the implementation of the Sports Development Program.
SPORTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
The Sports Development Program is a state-wide program linking sporting organisations in the delivery of a VCE/VCAL and Sport and Recreation program. The focus is to promote the sport locally through training young people as administrators, referees, umpires, coaches and volunteers. These young people will be involved in supporting all areas of sport locally as part of their study.
Participants in the program will be selected from across the metropolitan area and will be provided with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the sport and recreation industry via involvement in coaching, administration, officiating, club development, operations, event management and marketing.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
The program begins with young people being accepted through an application and interview process. The program will involve participants across the state trained by qualified teachers and supported by sporting organisation staff, resources and programs. The program will be run in club and council venues and utilise the specific sports game development programs.
CLUB BENEFITS
- Increasing the number of young people trained in coaching, refereeing, umpiring and all aspects of club and sport development
- Increase the number of trained volunteers who can officiate, coach and develop the game
- Assist in the promotion of all game development programs running clinics and events in schools and in the community
- Provide officiating and administrative services to your club increasing its capacity to function and provide a long term strategy for club development
- Provide a volunteer base to support the development of the sport throughout the state
- Link committed and enthusiastic young people with the sport and provide an opportunity for learning and experience through sport and recreation, education and training
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
- Young people remain engaged at school and can combine educational and training options through their interest in sport
- Involvement in existing events and activities run through council and youth services where participants can assist with the planning and running of events and programs within the local community
- Focus on preparing young people through high profile peak sporting organisations providing employment pathways in areas of growth within the industry
- Combining VCAL and training accreditation to increase the work skills and skill levels of participants
- Building links between the sport and recreation industry, community, education and training
- Providing a greater understanding of the industry and a clearer pathway to employment
- Address issues around participation and health, motivation and connectedness with community
- Provide greater access to sport and sporting involvement within local communities addressing social inclusion issues
- Engaging young people from a range of ethnic backgrounds to utilise sport in fostering activity and community involvement through participation
- Increasing the involvement of young people in sports in primary schools addressing health, fitness and participation objectives
EDUCATION BENEFITS
- The program provides the capacity for students at senior level and provides places annually for school candidates
- Links schools to a range of sporting organisations that promote other opportunities within the sport and recreation industry
- The support of the peak sporting organisations in assisiting schools in the development of their sport and physical education programs in VELS, VCE, VET and VCAL programs
- Excursions to sporting events linked to major sporting organisations
- Providing guest speakers, specialised staff and elite players in the delivery of curriculum
- Organising and running physical education classes in a variety of sports within participating schools
- Placement of Sports Development Program participants in schools to support the existing physical education and health programs
REQUEST TO SPORTING CLUBS
The program partners seek support from the club through:
- Providing a venue between 9.00am and 3.00pm on weekdays throughout the year for general program operation and classroom based teaching and learning.
- Allowing the program access to training facilities where possible during the week. This would be restricted in line with club policy.
- Providing general support for all activities, programs and events initiated and organised by the program particularly where deemed in line with the strategic plan of the club.
- Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program to clubs, schools and local communities.
REQUEST TO SCHOOLS
The peak sporting organisations and the program partners seek support from the school through:
- Providing enrolment for program participants and the transfer of funding through the DEECD to SEDA for program management
- Supporting the program through recording attendance and VASS data for the program
- Providing a venue between 9.00am and 3.00pm for general program operation and classroom based teaching and learning
- Providing general support for all activities, programs and events initiated and organised by the program particularly where deemed in line with the school aims and objectives
- Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program to clubs, schools and local communities.
REQUEST TO COUNCILS/SHIRES
The peak sporting organisations and the program partners seek support from council through:
- Providing a venue between 9.00am and 3.00pm on weekdays throughout the year for general program operation and classroom based teaching and learning
- Allowing the program access to training facilities where possible during the week. This would be restricted in line with council policy and ground access
- Providing general support for all activities, programs and events initiated and organised by the program particularly where deemed in line with the strategic plan of the council
- Provide links to local schools, youth programs, council events, festivals and council initiatives where the sports development groups could volunteer their assistance
- Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program to clubs, schools and local communities
