Recruiting Participants

Although Cricket Victoria's Regional Cricket Managers conduct free promotional school clinics to help Groups increase the number of participants in the in2CRICKET Programs, it is important that Groups actively recruit new participants themselves. Outlined below are a few simple ideas:

Schools

Groups that establish strong links with their local schools are guaranteed to increase registration numbers.  Try to target reliable teachers whom have an interest in cricket.  These contacts will provide your Group with access to the school newsletters and an opportunity to distribute your promotional flyers advertising your Group to the students and parents.

Shops

Advertise your Group by placing the posters or flyers in shops; advertising your Group is an excellent way of communicating with large numbers of people.  Target shops to which children are attracted eg.  Sport stores, video stores, community centres and milk bars.

Winter Sports

Cricket and Football are Victoria's two favourite past times, so it is encouraged that groups contact the coordinator of your closest Auskick program to speak with their participants and hand out flyers at their second last or last session of their season.  It is quite common for children who participate in winter sports to try and find a summer sport they can play as well. As well as Auskick, there are other sports that run junior programs throughout the winter months, these include: Soccer (Goalkick), Netball, Basketball & Hockey.

Registration Days

Most Groups follow the same routine for registration day each year.  If your Group has the resources, you may wish to organise a Registration Day at a local shopping centre.  Contact the Promotions Manager at your local shopping centre about the possibility of running such an event.  Active Registration Days also work well.  If you set up a range of modified games and skill activities, children will have something to look forward to.

Girls

Groups should be careful not to exclude girls, and to ensure you refer to girls and boys when you are recruiting.  If your Group actively recruits girls to the in2CRICKET Program, there may be enough to form a team as the girl's progress into underage cricket.
