U14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships (Male)
The Under 14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships are the first competition phase of the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Pathway. Played in January each year the Under 14 State Championships sees the best Under 14 cricketers in the state from 16 regions (eight metro and eight country) playing against each other. Previously this competition was an Under 15 competition, however from 2005/06 the age group will be Under 14. The age cut off date for all Cricket Victoria programs are 1 September of a given year; meaning to be eligable for the Under 14 competition you must not have turned 14 prior to September 1.
The 16 regions are split into four pools of four teams with each team playing the other three teams in their pool. After the preliminary rounds each team plays a quater final and semi final. The top two teams from each pool contest the major quater finals finals with the winners from the major quater finals progressing to the semi finals. All matches are 40 over a side one day matches.
The Under 14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships are played on Victorian Premier 3rd & 4th XI Grounds. These matches will take place at the same time as the Under 16 Commonwealth Bank Dowling Shield, which will be played on Victorian Premier 1st & 2nd XI grounds, some of the best turf cricket facilities in Melbourne. In 2008/09 the Inner East Emus defeated the Southern Rangers in the final of the Under 14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships.
At the conclusion of the Under 14 Commonwealth Bank State Championships the top performed players are selected in the Victorian Under 15 Squad which is organised by the VSSSA. Bottom age players from the Under 16 Commonwealth Bank Dowling Shield are also eligable for this team. A final squad of 13 players are selected to compete at the Schools Sport Australia National Cricket Championships.
