U17 Championships (Male)
Every season the Victorian Under 17 team competes in the Commonwealth Bank Under 17 Championships - Male along with five other states and two territories. The Commonwealth Bank Under 17 Championships is organised by Cricket Australia and is hosted by the states on a rotation basis.
Victoria has won the Commonwealth Bank Under 17 Championships - Male on 8 occasions since 1979/80. Victoria last won the Commonwealth Bank Under 17 Championships - Male in 2004/05. Last season Victoria finished second after losing the Final to New South Wales. Three Victorians were selected in the All Australian Under 17 Squad, Marcus Crook, Michael Hill, Matthew Wilkie.
Current Victorian Bushrangers State Squad members who played in the Victorian Under 19 team include Cameron White, Brad Hodge, Adam Crosthwaite, Tim Welsford, Simon Dart, Brett Harrop and Rob Cassell.
The Under 17 trial process consists of three phases. Phase 1 consists of a squad of 50 players based on performances from the previous season's Under 16 Commonwealth Bank Dowling Shield and club cricket performances. The squad undergo a number of training sessions in September. The squad is then reduced to 20 - 24 players for Phase 2. Phase 2 involves outdoor training sessions and trial matches during October and November before the final squad of 13 players are selected in late November. The Victorian Under 17 team has further sessions before leaving for the Commonwealth Bank Under 17 National Championships in January.
