Who was Lindsay Hassett?
![]() | Lindsay Hassett was a superb batsman with a copybook technique. Hassett amassed 6,825 runs at an average of 63 and was captain of Victoria for 40 of his 73 games. He also played 43 Tests for Australia, scoring 3,073 runs at an average of 46, including 10 masterful centuries. He succeeded Bradman as captain of Australia in 1948 and built an enviable record with 14 wins from 24 matches. A gifted leader of men, a shrewd tactician and a man of great character and integrity, Hassett served Victorian and Australian cricket for over half a century as a player, captain and later as one of the ABC's most respected Test Cricket commentators. Established in 1991, the Lindsay Hassett Club honours one of Victoria's greatest cricketers and is a celebration of the game he loved. The Lindsay Hassett Club and its members play a vital role in raising funds for a diverse range of cricket programs and charity organisations right across Victoria.
