Victorian all abilities cricket will once again be on display at the annual state carnival at Casey Fields on Sunday.

In partnership with the City of Casey, The Lord’s Taverners Victoria, Casey-South Melbourne Cricket Club and Cranbourne Cricket Club, the tournament gives people with an intellectual and/or physical disability the opportunity to play cricket.

In its ninth year, the carnival continues to grow with 20 teams competing across two separate formats, Super League and Ten Over Tonk.

“It’s great to see that in its ninth year the carnival is still expanding and that all abilities cricketers from across the state can come together to play with and against each other,” Cricket Victoria Community Programs Manager Annie Hateley said.

“It is without doubt that we couldn’t have done this without the support of the City of Casey, The Lord’s Taverners Victoria, Casey-South Melbourne and Cranbourne as well as the tireless efforts of the volunteers and parents.
“We thank them all for their contribution.”

At the completion of the Super League matches, a squad of 22 will be invited to trial for the Victorian Vikings, the state’s all abilities representative team, at a training session at the MCG.

“On the day, we will be looking for talented cricketers to represent their state and country, so I look forward to seeing the talent out there,” Hateley said.

The carnival will also give Gavan Hicks, Daynah Hopkins, Steven Teloniatis and Lachlan MacRae an opportunity to fine-tune their skills having recently been selected to play for Australia in the upcoming Inas International Cricket Series against England.

“It’s great to have four Victorians selected to play for Australia and for Gavan to be named captain is also a great accomplishment,” Hateley said.

“I wish the boys the best of luck for Sunday and during the tournament.”

Play will commence at 9.40am on Sunday at Casey Fields.
