World Record crowd bound for Boxing Day

The record books look set to be re-written during the opening day of the Commonwealth Bank Boxing Day Test after the last remaining public tickets were sold.

The Ashes blockbuster between Australia and England appears destined to eclipse the attendance world record set at the MCG in 1961 against the West Indies of 90,800 after the restricted view tickets were snapped up.

Tickets to days two, three and four of the Boxing Day Test remain available, with fans encouraged to pre-purchase their seats to guarantee their attendance.

Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer said the atmosphere at the MCG would be electric for the highly anticipated encounter.

“The Boxing Day Test remains the jewel in the international cricketing calendar and we are thrilled that the opening day is a sell-out,” Mr Dodemaide said.

“The MCG holds the current attendance world record and it seems fitting that the venue should eclipse its own mark.

“Victorians love their cricket and we have a lot to look forward to over the next two summers with the Boxing Day Test, the Carlton Mid One Day International Series and the KFC T20 INTL Series, as well as the ICC World Cup including the Final.”

Approximately 1,000 visitor tickets remain available to Melbourne Cricket Club members to purchase for guests to attend day one of the Boxing Day Test.

There is a limit of one visitor ticket per member.

In addition, around 1,500 reserved seats on the top and bottom levels of the MCC Members Reserve are also available for purchase at Ticketek or in person at the club.

More information about these seats can be found at mcc.org.au.

Cricket Australia is continuing its strong stance against scalping and is going to extra lengths to identify where tickets are being sold by scalpers.

These tickets are being cancelled and anyone holding a ticket bought by a scalper whose tickets have been cancelled will be refused entry at the admission gates.

Fans are advised to only purchase tickets from the MCG’s authorised ticketing agency, Ticketek.
