A day of Harmony

All abilities cricket was showcased at Kardinia Park after a Harmony in Cricket carnival was staged in Geelong.

Held in a round-robin format, the day saw two formats of cricket, with a Super League and Ten Over Tonk tournament.

“We wanted to hold a similar format to Cricket Victoria’s state carnival so that the day could act as a pathway to it,” Leisure Networks Team Leader for Healthy Communities Evan Priest said.

With representation from the Barwon All Abilities Cricket League, Altona Cricket Club and the Wyndham All Abilities Football & Cricket Club Inc, the community event showcased talent within the region.

Members from Geelong Cricket Club assisted in the running of the event, furthering the club’s long tradition of supporting all abilities cricket.

“We have supported all abilities cricket for a long time now and have hosted international disability games in previous years,” Geelong Cricket Club Administration Manager David Barnes said.

While Wyndham took the honours in both competitions, the day proved to be popular among the crowd, providing another participation opportunity for all abilities cricketers.

“Everyone had a ball,” Priest said.

“It was fantastic to see coaches and family members join in on games in the Ten Over Tonk.”

The carnival formed part of Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Access for All Abilities program and was facilitated in the Barwon region by Leisure Networks.
