Cricket Victoria launches new Mega Regions program

Cricket Victoria has today announced the launch of its new Mega Regions program, the most advanced talent identification and development program within Australian Cricket.

The six Mega Regions across Victoria will act as another development opportunity for both male and female players who narrowly miss out on state squad selection and will be led by Cricket Victoria’s own Coaching & Talent Specialists.

Victoria will greatly benefit from the new program, which will see players train over winter and thus not only increase their involvement in the sport throughout the year, but also their overall development to grow into future stars.

The regions will be structured as follows:

Mega Region YPL Teams  Coaching & Talent Specialist
 Greater Western Country Western Waves
Barwon
Central Highlanders
 Stephen Field
 Greater Northern Country Mallee Murray
North East Country Knights
Northern Rivers
 Craig Hogan
 Greater Southern Country Gippsland Pride
South East Country Sharks
 Paul Montgomery
 Eastern Metro Inner East Emus
Outer East Eagles
Northern Falcons
 Cathryn Fitzpatrick
Southern Metro Inner South East Scorpions
South East Bayside Breakers
Southern Pioneers
 Guy McKenna
 Western Metro Western Spirit
North West Wizards
 Tom Evans

Cricket Victoria Coaching & Talent Pathway Manager Dean Russ said:

“The development of the new Mega Regions program is another step towards an improved pathway system in Victoria, which now focuses on both depth and breadth of players involved.

“With the new structure, we’ll keep more kids involved from June onwards and give greater opportunity for them to showcase their talent and push for higher honours down the track. Perhaps most importantly though, we’ll see improvement in their skills and love of the game.”

Cricket Victoria Coaching & Talent Development Specialist Guy McKenna said:

“A crucial part of any athlete’s development is for them to be training consistently throughout as much of the year as possible, and the new Mega Regions program provides another platform for this at the pathway level.

“I have no doubt we’ll see both an improvement in Victoria’s performance at future championships and retention of talented players in the system as a result of the new program.”
