Division of seasons

The Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation, The Hon. Hugh Delahunty, MP, has renewed the division of seasons with Cricket Victoria and AFL Victoria for the next three years.

The determination, which arose due to the desire of each code to formalise rights to facilities that are co-shared by community cricket and football clubs on Crown Lands, ensures they are divided equally each year.

Cricket clubs are granted full and unrestricted use from October 1 to March 31, while football clubs retain the same rights from April 1 to September 30, with reasonable guidelines for changeover periods and accommodation for finals commitments where appropriate.

The determination is only applicable when there is joint tenancy between cricket and Australian Rules football clubs.

Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer Tony Dodemaide said the division of seasons remains an important policy for the state’s 285,560 participants and their respective clubs and associations.

“Cricket Victoria welcomes the Victorian Government’s decision to renew the division of seasons,” Mr Dodemaide said.

“The determination ensures that cricket retains priority access to its facility for six months of the year and can plan accordingly.

“While many cricket clubs would enjoy priority use on a lengthier basis, we are happy to work hand-in-hand with AFL Victoria to provide a positive outcome for both sports and the wider community.”

The up-dated division of seasons applies from October 1, 2013 for the years 2013 to 2016.
