Grassroots cricket receives boost

Grassroots cricket has been given a boost with 105 clubs receiving funding from the 2013-14 VicHealth Active Club Grants Program.

Over $200,000 has been handed out to selected cricket clubs to assist them in carrying out their specified projects.

Across Victoria, 742 sporting organisations were successful in receiving a portion of the $1.8 million allocated to grants.

“Sport and active recreation clubs are a great way to get involved, meet new people and keep active for good health,” VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said.

The grants, of up to $3,000 each, aim to help clubs encourage participation particularly among those who are disadvantaged, fund items or equipment and assist in improving the safety of participants.

“The grants aim to increase participation for the whole community and ultimately reduce the incidence of illness related to lack of physical activity,” Minister for Sport and Recreation The Hon. Damian Drum said.
