Lilydale reaches 150 years

The Lilydale Cricket Club will celebrate its 150th anniversary when it hosts in the inaugural '150 Not Out' tournament on Sunday.

Along with old rivals Healesville and Seville Cricket Clubs, the tournament will see the teams face each other once in a Twenty20 match.

Having competed against each other for the past 100 years from the early 1890s until 1939, the clubs believed that it was fitting to setup a tournament that will span over the next three years, with each club receiving the opportunity to host the competition.

Sponsored by IGA in Warburton, Sunday’s game promises to celebrate the club’s history and unite the community.

“This is going to be a genuine family day,” Lilydale Cricket Club President Josh Browne said.

“We are hoping that families in the community can come down and celebrate the day and enjoy in the nearby activities.”

Established in 1864 by Edward Moore Poyner, Lilydale has seen cricket amass a significant presence within the community.

Along with the tournament, the club will also partake in the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum Exhibition.

Celebrating the milestone, the exhibition will bring together original trophies, uniforms, medals, images and personal stories from past and present players.

It will also include a cricket bat from 1884, the Original Melba Cup that was donated by Dame Nellie Melba and the Blannin Cup.

The exhibition closes on February 2, 2014 while play will commence at 9am on Sunday.
