Makinley blows Metro away

An unbeaten 44 from Makinley Blows and a Georgia Wareham hat trick has helped Country draw first blood on the first day of the under-18 Country V Metro series played in Bundalaguah.

Metro fell 10 runs short of Country’s target of 4-90 in the Twenty20 match.

Katelyn Kile (10) and Blows took Country to 32 before the first wicket was lost, with Outer East Eagles’ True Campbell claiming the scalp.

Campbell followed up soon after with the key wicket of Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit’s Sophie Molineux for one with Amy Yates taking both catches.

Metro was on top after Box Hill pair Madi Clayton and Madi Wright dismissed Hope Irvine and Wareham to leave Country 4-59 in the 15th over.

Blows upped the scoring rate towards the end of the innings with 19 from her final 13 deliveries, as she finished the innings with 44 from 64, with seven boundaries.

Claire Wilson made 10 from 15 balls at the end of the innings as Country put on 31 for the fifth wicket to set the total of 4-90.

Kyra Black (15) and Elise Collier (9) started the Metro innings solidly, progressing to 0-23 before Wareham struck with a hat trick, with Black and Grace Mills stumped then Collier caught to complete the milestone.

13 from Amy Yates got Metro within striking distance before the side lost 4-1 with Molineux and Hope Irvine collecting a wicket each and two run outs hurting the Metro chase.

A 22-run ninth-wicket partnership between Wright (17*) and Campbell (6) gave Metro a chance of victory before another run out and a Katie Kile wicket iced the contest.

There is a 50-over match currently underway with Metro dismissed for 113.
