Meg Lanning nominated for Victorian Sportsperson of the Year

The number one ranked batter in the world was also nominated for the Female Athlete of the Year after she led the Southern Stars to success in the Ashes.

The Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers have also been nominated for the Victorian Team of the Year after winning the Sheffield Shield despite playing interstate nine out of ten matches and will be up against the Dandenong Ranges basketball team, the Armed Vics lawn bowling outfit, Melbourne Victory, Hawthorn and Victorian Fury netball side.

Two Cricket Victoria employees, Emma Gallagher and Di Day, are also up for awards for the Sports Administrator of the Year and Victorian Coach of the Year respectively.

Cricket Victoria CEO Tony Dodemaide praised all the nominees.

“Congratulations go to Di Day, who has been nominated in the category for the Victorian Coach of the Year for her work in grassroots cricket, and Emma Gallagher who is up for the Sports Administrator of the Year as part of her role at the Dandenong Women’s Cricket Club,” Dodemaide said.

“Whatever the outcome, it is a wonderful achievement for both Di and Emma and a testament to the work they have put in over not just the past 12 months, but for many years”.

The Cricket World Cup Legacy program is also nominated for the Sport Development Initiative Award.
