Yarraville Club claim thriller in MAACA Grand Final
The first official all-abilities club competition in Australia concluded in dramatic circumstances last Sunday with Yarraville Club claiming a last-ball victory over Skye.
Skye required three runs off the final delivery of the match but Yarraville Club held their nerve to win the inaugural Melbourne All Abilities Cricket Association (MAACA).
Six clubs competed in the inaugural MAACA season across two grades (Super League and Ten Over Tonk) with Yarraville Club, Skye, Croydon Ranges, Moorabbin, Axe Creek and Ferntree Gully, with new teams anticipated in 2016-17.
MAACA President Steve Lefebvre was extremely pleased with the success of the first season.
“It is great to see the competition up and running and also nice to be the first [of its kind] in Australia,” Lefebvre said.
The number of clubs in the competition looks set to rise as Mr Lefebvre said the Association has already received a considerable amount of interest from clubs enquiring about getting involved next season.
Cricket Victoria has been a long-time supporter of all abilities cricket, establishing the Victorian All Abilities Cricket Carnival 10 years ago.
Through this initiative, many relationships have blossomed into what we now know as the Melbourne All Abilities Cricket Association.
Cricket Victoria has a long-term commitment to being inclusive across the whole of Victoria cricket business.
The Cricket Victoria All Abilities Action Plan is an action for cricket development and participation growth, designed with clubs and volunteers at grassroots cricket, for grassroots cricket.
Cricket Victoria sees all abilities as more than a program and more as an exciting and significant move forward towards a cultural and attitudinal change within existing community based cricket.
Cricket Victoria and MAACA will continue to lead the way by ensuring participating mainstream clubs employ the appropriate levels of support, guidance, dignity and respect to all players within their all abilities program and club.

These gentlemen have been key drivers in providing opportunities for AA cricketers across Victoria for young people in particular, and ensuring that we are Victoria’s favourite sport – a sport for all Victorians.
