The Hawks Cricket Academy has provided 24 of the state's most talented players with an opportunity to develop their skills.

Run by Hawthorn-Monash Cricket Club, the Hawks Cricket Academy aims to provide young cricketers with the chance to develop their skills while creating a pathway to Premier Cricket.

With assistance from Cricket Victoria’s Strategic Grants Fund, the program held 18 training sessions and two camps over four months.

In its fourth year, the Academy tailors experiences for each individual player through the club’s coaches and players.

“We wanted to create the best training experience for the best young players,” coach Jessie McCartney said.

“With the boys being aged 13 to 17, planning for program had to be meticulous to provide the best training experience.”

Along with developing cricket skills, the program, aims to educate participants on game sense principles, mental aspects of the game along with providing educational workshops such as resume writing.

As a part of the course, cricketers also held clinics at schools to provide them with an opportunity to interact with the wider community.

“We are also big on developing all the qualities that are necessary for the boys in life,” Hawthorn-Monash president Petar Ivetic said.

The Academy will host an exhibition match next month, to give participants the chance to showcase their skills.
