Metro Melbourne – Return to Train and Play Update – 27 Oct 2020

Restrictions on training and playing community cricket in Metropolitan Melbourne is set to ease this week.

Following the announcements from Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Monday 26 October, Cricket Victoria can confirm that community cricket training and matches in Metropolitan Melbourne are able to commence for all age groups (both under-age and Open-age) from 11.59pm on Tuesday 27 October 2020.

All clubs and associations require both a COVID-19 safe plan and Council agreement to resume training and playing matches. Clubs and associations can use the template on the CV website here to develop their COVID safe plans if they have not done so already.

Clubs and associations can also access the range of resources available on the CV website’s COVID-19 page, including the latest Return to Training Plan, plus other useful one-page guides.

25km travel limit and Metro/Regional border update
In the latest State Government roadmap, the 25km radius restriction on travel within Metropolitan Melbourne, and the Metro/Regional ‘Ring of Steel’ will be removed from 11.59pm on Sunday 8 November 2020.

Therefore, players based more than 25kms from their club training facility and/or players needing to travel across the Metro/Regional border to access their club training facility will be unable to do so until after this time.

Paid club coaching staff can complete a DHHS Worker Permit to allow them to travel for the next 1-2 weeks until this change takes effect at 11.59pm on Sunday 8 November 2020.

Cricket matches – starting dates
Associations can now re-assess their Round 1 start date with certainty. Many will choose to stick with current plans already in place or delay one week to allow an extra week of preparation.

A decision on whether the Victorian Premier Cricket start date will remain as 21 November 2020 will be made in the next 24-48 hours.

Cricket Victoria would like to wish all clubs and associations good luck as they prepare for the 2020-21 season. Please reach out to your local Council, Association and/or regional Cricket Victoria representative if you require further help.
