Mounting a charge

Mount Waverley Cricket Club has unveiled a $100,000 project that will see five new pitches introduced for the up-coming season.

After years of planning and with support from Monash City Council, three synthetic and two turf wickets will be laid at the club before the start of season.

The new pitches provide the club with many benefits including the improvement of recruitment, the development of players and an increasing of training attendance.

With four senior, 10 junior and two veteran teams, the new facilities will be accessible to the entire club.

“The extra training facility makes training much more feasible,” Mount Waverley Cricket Club President Brad Sheehan said.

With run down facilities, the upgrade comes at a perfect time as the club is also looking to expand with a female team.

“We are all extremely excited about it,” Sheehan said.

“There is just a real buzz around the club.”

Along with the Monash City Council, Bendigo Bank and ETU, Cricket Victoria’s Strategic Grants Fund also contributed to the project that is estimated to be valued at $100,000.

“To have Cricket Victoria contribute about 10% of the entire project is just great,” Sheehan said.

“It’s hard to find funding for these projects so we are all very grateful.”
