Cricket Victoria is saddened by the passing of former Victorian women’s player Berwyn Greig, who represented the state in the mid-1960s.

Greig, Victorian cap #105, debuted in the 1964/65 season and played six matches for Victoria. A wicketkeeper, she contributed 26 runs at an average of 13.00, while also taking two catches and completing four stumpings behind the stumps.

Greig made a strong impact at club level with the Sunshine Ladies Cricket Club across more than a decade. Between the 1956/57 and 1969/70 seasons, she played 70 First XI matches, scoring 1,233 runs at an average of 18.13, including a highest score of 59 not out.

In addition to her work with the bat, Greig was a valuable contributor in the field, serving as Sunshine’s wicketkeeper during this period, while also claiming 20 wickets at an average of 20.75, with best figures of 3/6.

Greig’s contribution to women’s cricket came during a formative era for the game, and her involvement at both state and club level helped lay important foundations for future generations.

Cricket Victoria extends its deepest condolences to Berwyn’s family, friends and the Sunshine cricket community.
