Inspiring girls to get involved in cricket

The WWBL season may be complete, however young girls are continuing to be inspired to get involved in cricket following an All Girls Cricket Day held at Box Hill City Oval last weekend.

The day was all about celebrating young girls being active and showcasing what cricket has to offer. Of the day, Cricket Victoria’s CEO Andrew Ingleton said the event was a great success and demonstrates and exciting period of growth for women’s cricket.

“We’re continuing to see more women and girls participating in cricket which is really important for our game. Female cricket participation in Victoria grew by nearly 5% last season. We’re committed to continuing to find new ways to engage more females in our sport – whether that be playing, through administration or in supporting our WBBL teams.”

“It’s an exciting new era for female cricketers and events like the All Girls Cricket Day provide an opportunity for young girls to get involved and explore the opportunities available to them,” he said.

Participants were able to take part in plenty of fun activities including rotating cricket clinics, inflatable classic catches and climbing wall, dancing and the opportunity to meet former Australian player, Sarah Elliot.

Elliot mentioned the importance of WBBL in growing female participation. “It’s great for girls to be able to see role models on TV and that there’s a pathway, it’s really encouraging,” she said.
