Growing Cricket For Girls Funding – establishing Girls Cricket in Ballarat

The hugely successful Growing Cricket for Girls (GCG) Fund was established by Cricket Australia, in partnership with the Commonwealth Bank, to support the growth and development of girls competitions at community cricket level across Australia.

In 2017/18 season, 137 Victorian clubs and associations were awarded funding to develop Girls Cricket within their region, including Ballarat Cricket Association, who used their funding to establish a girls’ cricket competition (Rebel Renegades All Girls U13) in the region.

The funding assisted in purchasing equipment, employing a coordinator to administer the competition and speakers to enhance the overall experience.

The competition has received fantastic engagement from organisers, participants and parents.

Regional Cricket Manager Campbell Waring is thrilled with the results.

“The Renegades Girls Cricket League in Ballarat has been a huge success and is one of the best junior programs I have seen. It is a credit to all involved including the Ballarat Cricket Association for their leadership and support of the clubs as well as the logistics from week to week; the clubs themselves for the way they have really engaged in the junior girls program; the coaches, parents, families and the players themselves for all their efforts and participation. It is wonderful to see so many girls participating and enjoying their cricket and the smiles on their faces each week is priceless.”

Applications for the new round of funding are now open and are required to be submitted by 31 July, 2018.
