Victorians receive Imparja Cup honours

Victoria's finest indigenous cricketers have been rewarded for their outstanding form in the 2012 Imparja Cup with selection in a development squad to tour India later this year.

Ben Abbatangelo, Fletcher Stewart, John Green and Bohdi Walker were chosen in the squad, which will travel to India to attend the country’s cricket schools, by selectors Ray Bright and Mark Hanton.

Bright said the Indian tour will be benefit those selected.

“In sending the team to India, we’re aiming to further their development as players and individuals,” Bright said.

“The experience will get them used to the professional lifestyle they can expect as they reach the next level of cricket.”

Abbatangelo, Stewart and Walker were also named in the Black Caps side for the team of the series.

Highlighting Abbatangelo’s performance in the tournament, which yielded 244 runs at an average of 40.67, he was named Man of the Tournament with Northern Territory’s Adrian McAdam.
