Local Government Forum
Local Government Authorities from across the state gathered at the MCG last week for the Cricket Victoria Local Government Forum.
With just under 100 representatives in attendance and over 40 individual local government authorities represented, the forum provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss cricket with local government and workshop the development of the National Cricket Facility Guidelines and Specifications
The development of this resource will be an important reference for the cricket community and local government when considering facility development and planning for future opportunities in cricket. It is due for completion towards the end of 2014.
The forum also provided an opportunity for Cricket Victoria to identify and discuss various community initiatives including women’s cricket, the fast-growing multicultural cricket community and All Abilities cricket.
In addition, a session on the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup and the legacy it aims to leave on Victoria was well received, as was the offer for guests to take a photo with the official ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup trophy.
“The aim of the forum was to meet and discuss cricket with local government representatives, particularly in respect to the upcoming summer of cricket,” Cricket Victoria General Manger Game & Market Development Rohan O’Neill said.
“There is genuine hype surrounding cricket particularly in anticipation of the 2015 Cricket World Cup and following on from the success of the BBL|03.
“This forum provided an opportunity for local government representatives to provide a view on what they need as reference when developing new and existing cricket infrastructure. This includes the playing and training facilities as well as the off-field requirements.
“Cricket Australia’s National Community Facility Fund was also a well-received topic of conversation, where clubs can apply via Cricket Victoria to access national funding support.”
Guest speakers on the day included Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, Cricket Victoria CEO Tony Dodemaide, Cricket Victoria Director Claudia Fatone, Southern Stars player Sarah Elliott and the 2015 Cricket World Cup Community Engagement Manager Cameron McLeod.
