2024/25 Female Victorian Emerging Players Program squad unveiled

2024/25 Female Victorian Emerging Players Program squad unveiled

The Victorian Emerging Squad, formally the Emerging Performance Squad, will continue for season 2024/25 with a renewed focus on enhancing player development and creating strong links with the Victorian Women’s squad, the Melbourne Stars and the Melbourne Renegades.

The strategic link with Cricket Performance will enable selected players an opportunity to expand and explore their game under the guidance of Victorian State and Emerging Player Program coaching staff and newly appointed T20 High Performance Managers Clint McKay (Melbourne Stars) and Wade Seccombe (Melbourne Renegades).

The program will involve specific and considered training for players across all aspects of their cricket development including exposure to State and T20 squad training, high level match opportunities and connection with State program Sport Science & Sport Medicine staff.

Furthermore, the program aims to support players’ transition into a professional cricket environment with the knowledge and skills to build confidence and self-belief.

12 players have been selected in the Victorian Emerging Squad after consistent and strong performances across a number of competitions.

Each player has made a considerable impact across a variety of competitions be it at U19 National Championships, within Victorian Premier Cricket, or representing Australia at an U19 level.

Victorian Women’s Head Coach, Andy Christie, says the program will continue to strengthen the development of the next generation of Victorian women’s stars.

“The Victorian Emerging Squad has evolved over recent years with a continued narrow focus on supporting Victorian talented players who have been identified at Victorian or National level,”

“The program will be an important steppingstone and support network to expose players to the challenges of professional cricket.

“With the expanding Women’s cricket schedule there are opportunities on the horizon for aspirational cricketers to play at the next level. With the introduction of the WBBL preseason tournament and other inter-state matches it’s an exciting time for players to prepare and be ready if an opportunity is presented”.

The program will be overseen by Cricket Victoria’s High-Performance department with access to top-level coaching, sport science, data analytics, leadership and physical preparation networks.
