A new season is here as ‘Cricktober’ takes over!
Cricket Victoria is excited to celebrate the start of ‘Cricktober’, launching the summer of cricket 2025-26 with a massive year-on-year rise in Junior and Senior player registrations.
In what is shaping up as one of the biggest seasons yet, Woolworths Cricket Blast, Junior & Senior registered participant numbers are up a bumper 11% compared to the same period last year.
This growth is driven by a strong appetite for Junior Cricket, up 11% year-on-year, while Senior Cricket is up 13% year-on-year.
Growth in Women and Girls’ cricket remains a key driver for the games future, with Senior Women’s registrations up 33% and junior girls up 9%. These results highlight the growing opportunities and supportive environments being created across our Victorian clubs and associations.
Cricket Victoria’s strategic focus on 5-12 year-old participation is proving positive, with overall numbers in that age group up 11%. Girls in this bracket continue to shine, with registrations up 13%, building on the strong foundations of recent years.
Woolworths Cricket Blast has maintained the strong gains made over the past two seasons – a positive sign as we continue to introduce the next generation of cricketers to the game.
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said:
“We’re thrilled to see such encouraging growth across all levels of participation at the start of the 2025-26 season.”
“The passion for cricket in Victoria is stronger than ever, and with growing diversity across our competitions, the game is well placed to remain the number one summer sport for people of all ages and backgrounds.”
Liam Murphy, General Manager Premier & Community Cricket said:
“The strong participation numbers we are seeing are testament to the hard work and dedication we see every day from our cricket clubs and associations – in particular the hard-working volunteers across the community.”
“With local cricket set to begin over the next two weekends, I can’t wait to see our players back out in the parks and ovals across the State ahead of another brilliant season.”
Whether you are a first timer, returning player or simply looking to support your local club or association, there’s never been a better time to get involved in cricket!
