Victoria to host NICL livestream this weekend

Livestreamed Beastwear National Indoor Cricket League coverage returns to Victoria this Sunday evening with Hoppers Crossing Indoor Sports playing host to the Victoria West Women’s and Men’s zone matches.

The Women’s competition kicks off the evening as the Kings will take on newcomers Essendon Maribyrnong Park.

The Kings started their season impressively with two wins from their first two matches, however after falling to EMP in a high scoring thriller in their previous encounter, they have struggled to regain their early season form.

The experienced Donna Jones has led the run scoring for the Kings with 72 runs from her four matches, while captain Madeleine Wright has stood up with the ball taking six wickets from her four matches.

Their opponents, Essendon Maribyrnong Park, have also had a bright start in their inaugural season in NICL with three wins from five matches, including a 119-106 victory over the Kings from their Round 3 encounter.

Paris Rafferty (83 runs) and Brodie Whitmore (81 runs) have had strong seasons with the bat, while Maryam Omar has led their wicket-takers list with eight scalps from five matches.

In the Men’s match to follow, the Hoppers Crossing Hurricanes will host the undefeated Northcote Knights in a rematch of last season’s Victoria West Men’s Zone Grand-Final.

The Hurricanes have had a mixed start to their 2018 campaign, currently sitting in fourth place. They will be led by former Melbourne Renegades BBL player and 2017/18 Jack Ryder Medalist Trent Lawford, (111 runs, 5 wickets).

The Hurricanes will also look to Lachlan King (129 runs) and Anthony D’Angelo (18 wickets) for strong performances.

Northcote Knights have had an impressive start to the 2018 season, remaining undefeated after 11 matches.

Club stalwart Alex Jesensek has had a huge impact on their success to date, leading the Victoria West zone for wickets (21) and is third overall in runs-scored (172).

He has been ably supported by the experienced Phil Hiah (145 runs) and Dan Fielding (19 wickets). They will also draw considerable confidence from their previous encounter with the Hurricanes which yielded a 116-57 victory.
