Six Victorians included in Australian T20 World Cup squad
Victorian cricket congratulates Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, Annabel Sutherland, Sophie Molineux and Tayla Vlaeminck on their selection in the Australian squad for the upcoming CommBank T20I Tri-Series and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Lanning, Perry, Wareham, Molineux and Vlaeminck were members of Australia’s winning team in the 2018 edition in the West Indies.
For 18-year-old Annabel Sutherland, it marks a first senior international call-up for the Prahran all-rounder.
Victorian Women’s Head Coach David Hemp congratulated the six players on their selection.
“It’s really pleasing to see such a strong Victorian contingent for the upcoming tri-series and the T20 World Cup. It’s a huge honour to be picked to play for your country at any time, let alone in a World Cup on home soil,” Hemp said.
“At just 18, Annabel has continued to knock on the door and has been given her opportunity. To have a learning experience like that on the world stage is second to none.”
Australia begins its tournament on February 21 in Sydney against India.
Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton said the squad would have the country supporting them.
“I congratulate all the players on their selection. It’s a fantastic story for senior players like Meg and Ellyse, it reflects the recent experience and form of Tayla, Sophie and Georgia and acknowledges Annabel as a real rising star in cricket,” Ingleton said.
“It’s going to be a huge couple of months for international women’s cricket culminating in a world record attempt to fill the MCG for the World Cup Final. If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, today gives you six more reasons to get on board as the squad sets out to defend their 2018 title.”
Junction Oval will be heavily involved in both upcoming events, hosting four Tri-Series matches and five T20 World Cup matches and Ingleton encourages all Victorian fans to get along to the home of Victorian Cricket.
