Cricket Victoria congratulates Aaron Finch

Finch represented Australia on 254 occasions – five Tests, 146 ODIs and 103 ODIs – in an international career which began in 2011.

A two-time World Cup winner, Finch was part of Australia’s victorious 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup side on home soil, before leading his country to its first ICC T20 World Cup title in 2021.

He has captained Australia on 131 occasions – including 76 T20I matches, more than any other men’s player.

A powerful opening batter, Finch’s 172 off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in 2018 remains the highest individual score in T20Is. At the time, this innings broke his own record of 156 of 63 balls against England in 2013.

Finch finishes his career with 19 centuries for Australia – 17 in ODIs and two in T20Is.

A product of the Colac West and Geelong Cricket Clubs, Finch has also been a fine servant of Victorian career since making his debut for the state in 2007.

He is also a foundation player of the Melbourne Renegades and the only player to have featured in all 12 BBL seasons for the club – and will continue to play for the club following his international retirement.

“Aaron has been a magnificent contributor as both a player and a leader to Australian and Victorian cricket over a long period of time,” Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said.

“To represent Australia in all three formats of the game is an incredible achievement, let alone to have had such a long and successful career at the highest level.

“As an opening batter for Australia in white-ball cricket, Aaron was one of the world’s best and most destructive players. He was a match-winner who delivered in the big moments for his country and had the ability to change the game like few others.

“His impact as captain has been significant, as a smart tactician and brilliant leader of people, who has always played the game in the right spirit – and in doing so earning the respect of his teammates, opponents and fans in Australia and around the world.

“We congratulate Aaron on his achievements for Australia.  His cricket journey is not over and we look forward to seeing what the next phase of his career holds.”
