Maxwell returns to Victorian Sheffield Shield squad

Maxwell will bat for Fitzroy-Doncaster in Victorian Premier Cricket on Saturday and will face a fitness test before being cleared to return for Victoria after breaking his leg in November.

The latest of Maxwell’s 43 Sheffield Shield matches for Victoria came in October 2019.

“To bring a player of Glenn’s calibre into the squad is exciting, he has a fantastic record in Shield cricket and it’s a shame he hasn’t been able to play more of it,” Cricket Victoria’s Head of Male Cricket, David Hussey said.

“We had a great week at the MCG last week with two outstanding results, Marcus Harris showed his class in both the Shield and One-Day Cup matches and it was fantastic to see Matt Short score his first Victorian hundred.

“Will Sutherland captained the Shield side well and led an impressive young bowling group – Glenn has played and captained a lot of cricket, so his addition to the squad will provide even more support to Will on the field.”

Ruwantha Kellapotha has also been added to the squad while Xavier Crone and James Seymour drop out to play for the Victorian Second XI in Footscray also starting on Monday.

Will Sutherland (c) (Prahran)
