Victoria name new faces in WNCL squad

Victoria could field up to five debutantes in this week’s back-to-back WNCL matches against Queensland in Brisbane.

A host of fresh faces feature in the 13-player squad, which will be led by the in-form Nicole Faltum – who recently scored her maiden century for Victoria.

Victoria sits in fourth spot on the WNCL table, following a pair of wins against New South Wales.

Una Raymond-Hoey, who has represented Ireland on 11 occasions, follows in the footsteps of Kim Garth in earning a Victorian call-up.

The 26-year-old from Ringwood CC played four matches for the Melbourne Stars in WBBL|08 and could debut alongside club and WBBL teammate, teenager Olivia Henry.

Carlton CC fast bowler Madison Albers, Dandenong CC left-armer Poppy Gardner and Plenty Valley CC all-rounder Jasmine Nevins are also in line to debut for Victoria.

Dandenong CC all-rounder Lucy Cripps is also in the frame to return from injury, having not played at State or WBBL level since late 2021.

Australian all-rounder Georgia Wareham made a successful return from an ACL injury against New South Wales, and remains available for these matches before joining the national squad for the T20 series against Pakistan.

Meg Lanning, Kim Garth, Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland are unavailable due to national selection, with Rhys McKenna and Ella Hayward among four Victorians currently in action at the U19 World Cup.

Tess Flintoff will miss the fixtures with a quad injury, which kept her out of the recent Governor-General XI match against Pakistan.
