NICL 2018 – Week 6 wrap

Albury Warriors have claimed their third win in the West Men’s NICL competition following a 1-run victory over the Northcote Pirates in a high scoring thriller.

Batting first, the Pirates put together their best total of the season amassing 115 (Robert Walsh, 24 runs). In reply the Warriors fell behind the scoring rate early in the chase, however a last pair partnership of 46 between Shane Cook (21 runs) and Tim Farrant (25 runs) saw the Warriors pass the Pirates on the final ball of the match and take fourth spot on the ladder.

Meanwhile in the Melton Falcons and Hoppers Crossing clash, Cam Clayton (17 runs, 4 wickets) led the Falcons to a 101-76 run win.

North Geelong Supercats increased their hold on third spot with a 120-86 win over cross-town rivals Geelong Jets, where Richie Farrington continued his strong start to the season with 24 runs and two wickets.

The Northcote Knights amassed a further two wins across the weekend (113-70 vs. Pirates, 122-63 vs. Albury Warriors) to go 15 points clear on top of the ladder.

In Friday night’s East Men Zone, Cricket Southern Bayside pushed Cranbourne Kings all the way, eventually winning 80-54. Daniel Van Hees (20 runs) and Mitch Gregory (14 runs, 2 wickets) led the way for the Kings, while Ian Leach took 3 wickets for CSB.

Croydon Raiders were also winners again following a 116-62 win over Monash Tigers.

In the West Women’s NICL, Northcote Knights claimed their first win of the season with a narrow seven run victory over Hoppers Crossing Hurricanes. Chasing 61 for victory, Kayla Stuchbree led the way for the Knights with 17 runs and two wickets.

Australian representative, Briony Polkinghorne was the best for the Hurricanes with 21 runs and two wickets.

Meanwhile, Croydon Raiders took top spot on the ladder following a 103-59 victory over the Kings.

In the East Women’s NICL, Monash Tigers remain undefeated after their 140-79 run victory over Springvale Seahawks. Tahlia Meier and Ashling O’Farrell’s partnership of 51 for the third pair was a highlight for the Tigers.

Keely Pace’s four-wicket haul helped Cranbourne claim their third win of the season, with a 116-44 victory over Northcote Pirates.
