NMCA celebrate White Ribbon

The Northern Metro Cricket Association (NMCA) has pledged its support to stop violence against women by supporting the White Ribbon campaign.

.In February 2014, the NMCA endorsed a social media campaign among its clubs to help create social awareness about White Ribbon and stopping violence against women.

The initiative ran in conjunction with the Association’s inaugural women’s round where clubs were asked to support the females at their club in addition to participating in the White Ribbon campaign.

“Our aim was to get all clubs involved and get our members asking, what is White Ribbon?” NMCA Board Member Lenore Smith said.

“The NMCA is male dominated association so this is a good campaign to raise awareness about.”

Each club was given two A3 corflute signs with clubs and players asked to take photos with the signs and post them to social media, using the hashtag – #nmcawhiteribbon.

Over 350 photos were submitted on the NMCA’s Facebook page.

All Board Members and club members were also asked to pledge and swear the oath via the White Ribbon website.

Overall the clubs raised $2000 for White Ribbon, with the NMCA equalling this value to take the total to $4000.

Receiving funding from the state government through Cricket Victoria’s Harmony in Cricket project, the NMCA will continue to support and build on its White Ribbon campaign, dedicating further time to the cause in February 2015.
