A right‑arm medium‑fast bowler and capable lower‑middle‑order right‑hand batter, the reigning Bill Lawry Medallist broke into the Victorian squad in the 2021-22 season following standout performances in Premier Cricket (57 wickets at 18.14) under mentors Adam Dale and Cameron White. 

O’Neill made his List A debut for Victoria in March 2022 during the Marsh One‑Day Cup, and followed it with his first‑class debut in October 2022 in the Sheffield Shield, claiming four wickets including key scalps of Alex Carey and Travis Head. He earned recognition as Victoria’s Sheffield Shield Player of the Year (2023-24, 38 wickets at 21.07) and received the prestigious Bradman Young Cricketer award.

In the 2023-24 BBL season he joined the Melbourne Renegades, and in early 2025 he strengthened his red-ball credentials with Nottinghamshire in the English County Championship-finishing as the competition’s top wicket-taker with 21 dismissals at an average of 17.9 and registering multiple five-wicket hauls.

Known for relentless accuracy, subtle swing and energetic personality-complete with on-field ‘Brownless’ persona-O’Neill is widely regarded as one of the most exciting bowlers in Australian domestic cricket and a promising candidate for future national honours.
